Worked hard many years ago to build a career in Canadian Fashion. I had help from many people in first Vancouver, Mr. John Kim Bell and his Foundation (The Canadian Native Arts Foundation) gave me my first Grant towards Fashion first in Vancouver and then Toronto... I remain grateful for this. Mr. Kim Bell taught me many things.After that Toronto Festival of Fashion when I was then working at then Simpsons Department store on Young and Queen Street(S). I served sliced meat, sandwiches and coffee... I recall many years ago when I was living on College and Spadina Streets going to King Street looking for a cutting board... in alleys, anywhere... a sheet of plywood that would serve as a cutting board. I found one on the old Massey Harris Building. It was a 4 x 6 or so sheet of plywood. I tore it off the window and carried it back to College and Spadina... back to my first studio in Toronto.Worked hard. Bought scraps of pure silk at 10 cm at a time to create what grew into a career.Toronto Festival of Fashion.Career took off from there. But...This this show will be posted on Youtube soon... Moved back to my community of Birthright Pehdzeh Ki First Nation.Learned knowledge where I became the Senior Administrator of my Community.Decided to go back to what I do best.
