I’m Darryl and it is my privilege to work for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Bumblebees are awesome. They are also vitally important pollinators of our wildflowers, fruits and vegetables, but sadly, they’re in trouble. Two species have gone extinct from the UK in the last hundred years and many others have seen drastic declines in their populations. Without them our world would be a very different place.My role as Senior Science & Policy Officer is all about trying to use the available evidence to influence decision-makers to help get bumblebees thriving again. It involves a lot of partnership working (or cross-pollination as I like to call it), which is fundamental to achieving change. I’m very passionate about science communication and created a dedicated newsletter called the Bombus Review to help keep Trust staff and supporters up to date with the latest bumblebee science. In addition to my role, I also lead the Climate & Sustainability Group, measuring and working to reduce the organisation’s impact on the environment.
