Primary Care Physician, with focus on opiate use disorder; including injectable opiate maintenance (iOAT), HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C.

Dr. MacDonald is a physician at the Providence Crosstown Clinic which was the site of NAOMI and SALOME. He was the physician lead from 2010 to 2023. He continues to supervise injectable opiate/opioid assisted substitution treatment (iOAT) at the clinic. Dr. MacDonald and his team are the first physicians in the world to prescribe hydromorphone for the treatment of substance use disorder.

Primary care in isolated rural settings of northern Manitoba and Nunavut. Services included in-hospital care, emergency and obstetrics.

As the Clinical Associate in the HIV Program my responsibilities included managing the inpatient ward, ER consultation and an ambulatory clinic.

As a primary care physician in the Canadian military my practice included addictions medicine, ambulatory and inpatient care.
