Da got his Ph.D. on Computer Science at University of Science and Technology of China at 2010. He is a Principal Engineer in Alexa in Amazon. He is the tech lead in Alexa Identity org, and responsible for defining the technical strategy and vision, and building primitives for empowering Alexa to be truly personal and better communal. He has helped the org grow from <20 developers to ~120 developers over the last 4 years. His areas of focus are around Identity & Personalization, including but not limited to: customer profile, identification and recognition, authentication and authorization, proactive Alexa and personalization. His major contribution has been, (1) upgraded Alexa to be a truly personal assistant - Alexa can recognize interacting person, and provide personalized user experience to delight customers. (2) upgraded Alexa to be better communal - empowered Alexa to be applied to broader user scenarios such as college and enterprises. (3) simplified and optimized Alexa architecture to accelerate time to market to empower Alexa maintains competitiveness.

In 2021, Da focuses his energy on: Enrollment as A Platform – Abstract and encapsulate enrollment experiences such as profile enrollment, biometric enrollment, family management as independent, pluggable and self-contained enrollment component, which can be embedded in any user experiences on any modalities; Recognition and Fusion on Device – implement face recognition on Alexa multi-model devices, and implement identity fusion on device to produce recognized person signal for enabling Ambient Home experiences; Personalization – build customer profile from explicit and implicit preferences, build person knowledge graph, metric reporting, telemetry at person level, downstream impact on person level, etc. In the past, Da has led 10+ teams, cooperated with 30+ teams, launched company level projects. -
Senior Software Engineer Technical LeadAmazon Feb 2014 - May 2017Seattle, Wa, UsDa led two teams (1 backend team + 1 mobile team), designed and implemented WeChat Login in CN marketplace, across multiple platforms including CN Amazon Retail website, Shopping App and Kindle App. It’s the most preferred registration/login method for Amazon CN marketplace. WeChat Login was the first time in Amazon history that Amazon relied on a third party to authenticate Amazon users. The complexity of the work was not just to build a solution that works for WeChat account but to build out a core platform that would support all future 3rd party account cases for Amazon. The solution has enabled Amazon onboarded 6 more 3rd party identity providers till Q3 2020, such as Facebook, Google, etc.Da led two teams (1 backend team + 1 mobile team), implemented Real Name Verification in CN marketplace. The feature helped 10+ million Amazon customers get real name verified without introducing any customer friction, and ensured CN Amazon to be Anti-Terrorism Law compliant.

Da led team (4 SDEs + 1 QA) built Weibo Auto Micro Space platform from scratch. The platform enables Weibo customers to browse and query brands and models directly from 4S dealers. The platform initially integrated with Yi Che, and is pluggable and extensible to support onboarding more data sources. -
