I am Daan and I don't like sitting around and waiting for things to happen. Just like a coding problem (or any other problems in the world for that matter), staring at it won't change the outcome one bit. Even though tech problems and wordly problems are two whole different things, the former can be used to aid in solving the latter. This is where things get interesting (for me at least). The great computational power we possess today allows us to generate insights into contemporary problems in a multitude of ways. For instance: remote sensing generates heaps of data that can be analysed using machine learning. This can then be turned into a map by using GIS, and this map can afterwards be displayed in an interactive viewer using JavaScript which can be viewed by people all over the world. Coincidentally, I am interested in and capable of working on each of these components. Additionally, I also love talking about these things, so feel free to hit me up if you have something cool going on.At every point in my education or professional career, people have come to me when they were having technical issues and needed an actual solution to their problem. Most of the time I was able to help them or at least point them in the right direction. What I think was more important however, is that I never judged someone for having an issue with could be solved easily, and that I was never impatient with someone that had a different set of skills than I. A lesson that I learned from teaching others (and from being taught many times) is that both the teacher and the student learn from this process. Long story short: never stop learning, never stop sharing knowledge and ideas, and have patience.
