Appointment was in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Physics.-- Led the quantum computing theory group in the department of computer science & engineering. Managed graduate students, undergraduate students, and postdoctoral scholars in performing cutting edge physics and computer science research. -- Raised over $5 million in grants from multiple government agencies, including the National Science Foundation, the National Security Agency, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. -- Taught courses in data structures, theoretical computer science, and quantum computing. Recognized by dean for outstanding teaching evaluations.-- Discovered and pursued novel methods for adiabatic quantum computing.

Researcher on fault-tolerant quantum computing and quantum algorithms.-- Supervised graduate students, taught courses on quantum computing and digital design.

Research on quantum algorithms and fault-tolerant quantum computation.-- Worked on a team that discovered a new quantum algorithm that exponentially outperforms the best classical algorithm.-- Discovered a new quantum error correcting code that (at the time) significantly improved the threshold for fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Postdoc at the Institute for Quantum Information at Caltech run by Professor John Preskill. Carried out research on quantum algorithms, communication complexity of quantum correlations, and fault-tolerant quantum computing--- In collaboration with graduate student Ben Toner, discovered a protocol for simulating certain quantum correlations using a single bit of classical communication.--- Pursued optimal measurement approach to the hidden subgroup problem.
