I am the GBIF Node Manager for the Norwegian participation in the Global Biodiversity Information Facility. The position is hosted by the UiO Natural History Museum at the University of Oslo. GBIF is a global research infrastructure providing free and open access to biodiversity information.I started as database engineer at the Nordic Gene Bank in 1999 and took over the responsibility for the IT department in 2002. As IT-Manager I supervised a team of 3 to 4 staff members. The Nordic Gene Bank was reorganized in 2008 as the Nordic Genetic Resources Center (NordGen). Between 2005 and 2010 I was working with both NordGen and the Bioversity International headquarters in Rome (Italy). From 2011 to 2012 I was the Knowledge System Engineer at the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) secretariat located in Copenhagen, Denmark.I completed my PhD thesis in 2011 at the University of Copenhagen, Faculty for Life Sciences, Department of Agriculture and Ecology. Thesis title: "Utilization of plant genetic resources: A lifeboat to the gene pool", ISBN: 978-91-628-8268-6. The research focus was on agro-ecological computer models for identification and utilization of genetic resources for crop improvement and food security. My research results has since been frequently cited and used globally. My thesis is freely available for download at doi.org/10.13140/2.1.1829.9846 (PDF, 38 MB).I graduated in 1996 from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) as Civil Engineer (Master of Technology). My diploma thesis title was: "Studies of a plasmid where replication can be controlled by specific additions to the growth medium". The topic of this research project was on molecular genetics in bacteria as model system to study and characterize gene function.I am fluent in English both written and spoken. Good skills in German. Scandinavian: Norwegian is my mother tongue. Good knowledge of Swedish and Danish.
