Dai is a consulting aerospace engineer with 40 years experience in both civil and defence sectors. His domain experience in mainly in Space and Air with some background in Land battlefield systems. Technically, his specialisation is in all aspects of electronics and communications systems. Managerially, he has extensive experience of team and project management and is particularly adept at customer facing relations through all project phases. Specific projects in which has played a major role are Rapier SAM, Intelsat TDMA system, International Space Station, UK government space systems (continuing), CIBIS, STRV 2 and 1C/D experimental satellites, Beagle 2 and Mars Express and the Zephyr High Altitude Pseudo Satellite system (over 15 years). During his career he has worked for Bae, Hughes Network Systems, Logica, Esys (as one of its founders, QinetiQ, SSTL and Airbus. He has also operated as an independent consultant for 20 years. His unique specialisation is in Onboard Data Handling and Spacecraft TT&C as well as research into advanced Internet technology in challenging environments, being a senior member of the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) since 1986 and having extensive involmement in the Interplanetary Internet. He has also authored some standard texts on these subjects.

Notable projects were the International Space Station, Mars Express, Beagle 2 and have and contine to play a key role in UK government space programmes.For a large part of this period (2004 to 2011) I was a full time member of the Zephyr solar electric high altitude long endurance UAV programme culminating in the 2010 record braking endurance flight. Formal roles included technical management of the autopilot and control aystems, ground segment for control, navigation and payload operations, communications and optical payloads and air safety subsystems. I was also part of the overall design and trials team, participating in trials in Australia and the USA and involved in the design of all aspects of the aircraft.Continued in my involvement, as Deputy Director for Space Internetworking of the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems, in development of disjoint/delay tolerant network protocols for ad hoc networks of e.g. spacecraft and UAVs. I continue to participate in the area of space communications standardisation through CCSDS.I am the co-author of the data handling section of the standard text book "Spacecraft Systems Engineering" -
