My successful academic career has given me significant and varied scientific expertise in a range of topics, including toxicology, molecular biology, genomics, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, cell biology, marine biology, entomology, evolutionary biology and ecology. My career includes a number of published papers and I am highly skilled in scientific writing, reviewing, teaching and presenting. Through my work experience, as well as through personal involvement in producing scientific papers for publication, I have developed an excellent eye for detail and valuable experience in the standards expected from scientific publishers. I have excellent organisational skills, self-motivation and the ability to effectively prioritise. I work well on my own initiative and perform effectively under pressure, displaying a practical approach to problem solving. I'm currently seeking a new and challenging role in academic publishing that will utilise my existing skills and experience, whilst enabling ongoing personal and professional development.

Postdoctoral Research AssistantUniversity Of Bristol Mar 2014 - Jun 2019Greater Bristol Area, United KingdomFollowing the successful completion of my PhD, I was employed as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bristol. In this exciting project I generated a number of next-generation sequencing data sets (transcriptomes & genome sample collection) for several species of social wasps, and undertaken the subsequent analyses of this data. This role required significant laboratory work, including insect dissections to extract brain tissues and RNA/DNA extractions for sequencing. The data analysis involved an understanding of computer programming languages (Perl and R) and transcriptome assembly, both de novo (using Trinity and RSEM) and genome-led (using Tophat) followed by differential gene expression analyses (using EdgeR, Deseq and Ebseq) and gene annotation (using blast2go and Trinnotate). I am highly skilled in a number of molecular biology laboratory practises, and also have experience in bioinformatic data analyses. During this employment I attended a number of workshops and training courses to further my professional development. These included Plain English for Research Communications, Science Writing for Popular Publication, Personal Impact and Effective Networking, Research Grant Applications, Collaborating Successfully with others, Advanced Research Writing and Peer Reviewing. -
