Daisy-Mae Hamelinck completed her Master of Arts in the Department of Sociology at McMaster University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours, Wilfrid Laurier University), Bachelor of Education (University of Toronto) & a Social Service Worker Diploma (Fanshawe). She is also an Ontario Certified Teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers (since 2005). Daisy has taught for 20+ years in post-secondary settings & is currently teaching at, Durham College, Fanshawe College, & Western University. Most of her teaching career has been spent at Conestoga College & Western University, but it all started at triOS College, when she helped launch the Community Service Worker (CSW) program. Daisy received the award for Instructor of the Year in 2006 (Faculty of Healthcare) across all triOS College campuses in Ontario. In 2017-2018, Daisy returned to triOS College & launched the position of Student Success Coach.As a two-time cancer survivor (2008+2017), Daisy has presented regularly with the Terry Fox Foundation (2010-2017) & the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (2012-2019). She has appeared on CTV News London w/ Jan Sims, Canada AM w/Seamus O'Reagan, Global News w/Leslie Roberts, & CityNews. In 2020, she was diagnosed with Irlen Syndrome & has navigated Long-COVID. It is through these experiences that she raises awareness & speaks about AODA-the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. She is a primary caregiver for two aging parents with various mental/physical health issues, but balances her many interests by spending time with loved ones, regular yoga, meditation, attends church regularly, & travels nationally/internationally. In 2016, she travelled to Paraguay & built houses with Habitat for Humanity. Since her most recent cancer diagnosis (2017), she has returned to dragon boat racing & hopes to be back in the ring with Chris Horodecki (UFC/MMA) once again.Daisy's first co-authored book (2018), Interpersonal & Group Dynamics: A Practical Guide to Building an Effective Team was followed by a children's book Different is Good: Based on a Real Story (2023).
