About Daithí De Buitléir
Currently coming up with new ways to grow the number of people speaking Irish everyday across Dublin with Dublin City Council.Story so far:- Accidentally set-up an Irish-language sports club while in college which became the fastest growing sports club in Ireland. Realised that I love the energy of entrepreneurship.- Finished up university in 2012 at the height of global recession. Thought it was madness that all my peers were emigrating or unemployed so set up a charity called Raising & Giving Ireland to tackle youth unemployment. Ended up rolling our initiative out across 7 colleges, engaging 10,000 students and helping countless communities. As the world came out of recession, youth unemployment wasn’t as hot a topic so decided to change scenery completely.- Felt we’d never really managed to mass-communicate the great work Raising & Giving Ireland did, so went to work for Thinkhouse, one of world’s the leading independent marketing agencies to learn how the biggest companies did it. Worked on large campaigns for big global companies such as Unilever and Heineken.- Never fully shook off the entrepreneurial itch. Was running entrepreneurship competitions and bumped into a great early-stage startup called Parkpnp who were looking to create the world’s first universal parking marketplace. I decided to get involved. Scaled the marketplace to €1m+ revenue per annum, recruiting over 70,000 regular users.- As soon as we started talking about new ways to do parking, we were inundated with companies who had parking problems who needed solving. We soon realised that employee parking was a part of the parking problem we were really passionate about solving. Most of the team stepped away from day to day activities with Parkpnp to focus on building a new offering called Wayleadr. The software is now optimising commutes for 100,000s employees a month for some of the biggest companies in the world.-In July 2023, I decided that I want to change direction. I'd learned lots of very valuable skills throughout my career to date and I wanted to focus on using them in a more impactful way. I joined Dublin City Council to kick-start a new innovation unit which focuses on building new approaches to strengthen the Irish language in Dublin.
