The Grants Advisory Board for Youth (GABY) supports area youth by developing their knowledge of philanthropy and community-building skills through service learning. As a part of the board, I have reviewed 27 grant applications from youth that who support equity and/or equitable causes in the Greater Sacramento area. During my time in GABY, I have granted over $19,000 in grants to projects that represent a diverse array of community needs — from producing care packages for LGBTQI+ homeless youth to bringing environmental education to children who have limited opportunities to explore wild places.

Collaborated with senior university administration and faculty to determine the future of the dining program at Washington University in St. Louis. Represented the values and concerns of the WashU student body to better inform the committee’s decision. Reviewed submitted proposals and provided detailed feedback.

Promoted at the age of 17 while in high school, took on responsibility to support family. Oversaw team members and delegate duties to be accomplished during that shift. Worked in a high volume, fast paced environment. Managed employee breaks, handled all customer complaints, prepared product, ensured food safety and sanitation standards. Counted all cash drawers and cash safe each shift.

All delegated activities were completed, including the improvement of wildlife behaviors and the cleanup of recreational areas. Developed a reputation for punctuality and hard effort. Maintaining blue heron trails, eliminating invasive species, and watering trees were among the chores completed.

Completed garden maintenance included trimming bushes and trees. Assured that community parks were kept clean and well-maintained. Set up city events
