It's fascinating and vital work, and I brought agile techniques to a government agency. Under my leadership, we implemented modern tools, moving to cloud-based software for software management and development (Jira, Confluence), demonstrated consumer facing applications for access to patient records (Health Records for Ontarians, or HeRO), and updated and modernized many systems, including OLIS (Ontario Lab Information System) which holds nearly all lab results for 14 million Ontarians, ConnectingOntario, the premier viewer for hospital, lab, medication and imaging records for procedures performed in other locations (hospitals, specialists, clinics). We also modernized the technology stack, moving to containers and continuous integration / continuous deployment, using Openshift, Maven, Jenkins, Ansible, etc., and changed from being a moribund government agency to one taking an active interest in real continuous improvement (3 week server and database installs down to 2 hours). -
