A conversation decades in the making. “Why does Muskegon not have a Boys & Girls Club?” For year’s community focused groups discussed and attempted the opening of a Boys & Girls Club in Muskegon. However, in each case there was a common denominator. The financial resources needed to open and sustain a Boys & Girls Club. In 2013 those discussions started becoming more than just words. Planning began, a board was formed and a funding campaign developed. By the fall of 2014 the founding board of directors raised just over $1,000,000 for the seed money necessary to operate a Boys & Girls Club for three years. The greatest obstacle, financing the club was overcome. After years of waiting and months of tireless nights the Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshores hired their first CEO, Dakota Crow, who would open the door in the Nelson Elementary School on April 20th of 2015 to its first 30 members. By the end of 2015 the clubs membership reached over 300, serving over 70 youth every day. Within that year the club served over 7,000 meals and set operating hours to be open when youth were most in need. Today, the Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore continues growth and continues to receive new opportunities to serve youth in areas of Muskegon County which need us most. There is a saying amongst the organization that has held true since day one. “Dreams Don’t Work Unless You Do.” We believe Great Futures are ahead for the youth of Muskegon County, but realize without the Boys & Girls Club Great Futures are only a dream. Our future awaits in making the dream of Great Futures a reality.

On May 28th, 2013 the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater West Plains Area (BGCWP) opened the doors for the youth of West Plains. This day marked the end to a long standing period of an under served youth population. With after school care cost on the rise and disbandment of the local school districts after school program, the clubs timing proved to be a saving grace for not only the youth of West Plains, but the families that the club serves. By providing transportation from the school to the club and keeping membership costs low, parents can feel at ease that their child is gaining lifelong skills without the worry of transportation/ time and costs.Under my leadership BGCWP relocated the main campus to serve more youth, opened three additional satellite clubs and leveraged our local school system to provide all necessary space, as well as student transportation, at no cost to the club. In addition, we organized two successful fundraising campaigns, acquired three state grants, one federal contract and many local grants. Our efforts increased our operating budget from $150,000 to over $550,000. These same efforts grew membership to over 550 in 16 months time. In late 2014, our team lead the board to locate a proper location for a future state of the art Boys and Girls Club Facility. My dedication to go the extra mile no matter how far the journey or the road blocks has led to my personal successes, and the courage to execute strategy lead BGCWP in the direction of success. My experiences and the specific training to successfully open the doors of an organization lead me to the next chapter in my life, serving as the first Chief Executive Officer for the Boys and Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore (BGCML).

As part of the sales team at Source One Digital, a custom signage printer, I had the opportunity to service clients such as Cabelas, Spartan Stores, NASCAR and the NCAA. Beginning and growing relationships has been an important part of my life and a success factor during my time at Source One Digital. My ability to listen, understand and act with the interest of others in mind grew trust and strong relationships. At Source One Digital I developed business relationships that contributed to nearly one-­‐quarter of new business development. Relationships have served as my foundation and proved to be a key to my growth.

My time at the Branson Chamber of Commerce allowed me to build relationships out of my comfort zone. Our team built community trust and value in the Chamber of Commerce/CVB, through member services and visitor aid activities. The Branson Lakes Area Chamber and CVB gave me the opportunity to negotiate and work alongside both parties in various scenarios, while applying the knowledge gained from education at Drury University.
