Engineered a biochemical TF-FRET based assay to study differential ligand-dependent protein-protein interactions between the Estrogen Receptor and various coactivators and corepressors. Developed and launched the biochemical Z'-LYTE™ FRET-based assay technology platform for the interrogation of kinase targets, which became the premier platform for Life Technologies' SelectScreen™ kinase profiling service. Cloned the human Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase gene promoter and characterized the metabolic activation of the SREBP response element by polyunsaturated fatty acids and cholesterol. Investigated the role of polyunsaturated fatty acids and cholesterol (via. SREBP), peroxisome proliferators (via. PPAR), and p53 (via. NF-Y) in the regulation and expression of the lipogenic gene Stearoyl CoA Desaturase in human cancer cell lines. Taught molecular biology techniques and procedures to undergraduates new to the lab.

Studied the epidemiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Uganda, Africa through the clinical testing of blood and urine glucose levels among diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Assessed the severity of type 2 diabetes in urban and rural communities and characterized the disease according to sex, obesity, and hypertension. Published findings in the journal Nutrition. Arranged for medical treatment and advised on diet and exercise for disease management.
