I have a portfolio of clients which includes owner managed businesses; professional firms/individuals; landed estates; family trusts and high net worth private clients. There are a large number of trusts included in my client portfolio, with assets ranging from relatively small values within the IHT nil rate band to multi million pounds. For some of the trusts I am a trustee, in others I act as trust administrator and advisor dealing with taxation matters. Share valuations are provided for fiscal purposes; business succession and the purchase or sale of businesses. Capital tax planning – particularly for transactions involving capital gains tax and inheritance tax – is dealt with on a regular basis. I lecture on accountancy and taxation matters to professional bodies, groups of business people and professional colleagues on a regular basis. I am chairman of the South West of England branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. The branch is very active, with many of the members working in small accountancy/tax practices and dealing with small manager owned businesses and personal tax clients. I also provide one-off advice as an Expert Witness, dealing with matrimonial cases requiring valuations for private company shares, tax advice on transfer of assets and the most efficient manner of extracting cash for clean break settlements. Litigation support work also covers personal injuries/medical negligence quantification; finding solutions to business disputes and providing expert evidence in cases of professional negligence involving taxation and accountancy matters. I usually work on approximately 30 litigation support cases each year.
