Gotuit Media (which was ultimately acquired by TiVO) was a leading provider of premium scene-level based metadata technology and related SAAS services, which optimized the value and viewer search and accessibility of video libraries for professional content publishers, including ABC, CBS, ESPN, Fox, History Channel, Lifetime Networks, Sports Illustrated, Turner Broadcasting, and World Wrestling Entertainment.While at Gotuit, among other activities, I built Gotuit Media's video on demand music video service which was the #1 VOD service (with an 84% market share) in over 1 million U.S. cable television homes.

• Grew Verance from two small R&D companies into the leading and Emmy Award winning digital audio watermark technology and media information services company.• Verance's Aspect watermark technology -- a foundational component of the next generation ATSC 3.0 television standard -- enables personalization and interactivity across all platforms, connecting with millions of viewers on television in the dynamic ways they are accustomed to.• Verance’s Cinavia watermark technology protects theatrical and home entertainment releases against unauthorized use in over 200 million consumer devices worldwide, including Blu-ray Disc players, game consoles, digital media adapters, PCs and set-top boxes.• Secured adoption of the Verance audio watermark technology as the worldwide industry standard for DVD Audio and the Secure Digital Music Initiative (which led to its current use by the motion picture industry).• Closed Verance Series A and B fund raising rounds and positioned the company for a major IPO (but not acted upon due to changed market conditions).

Managed the legal, business, technology and policy matters affecting the recording industry during period of dramatic change, including:• Served as a principal architect of the “Digital Performance Right in Sound Recording Act of 1995” and the “Audio Home Recording Act of 1992”.• Chaired the worldwide recording industry’s International Steering Committee on DVD Audio: Led the industry’s negotiations for development of the DVD Audio standard.• Chaired RIAA Legal Committee: Coordinated and directed development of recording industry legal positions.• Chaired the RIAA New Technology and Multimedia Committee: Among other things, oversaw the development of the Enhanced CD standard.

Counseled Fortune 100 companies (including television networks, motion picture studios, cable television systems, and an MLB Baseball team) and motion picture, consumer electronics, broadcaster and professional photographer trade associations in domestic and international copyright and communications issues, including music licensing, IP litigation, television contract negotiation, cable television licensing and franchise negotiations, and legislative/regulatory matters.

Served as a senior member of the Copyright Office legal and policy team, implementing the Copyright Act of 1976 (including the crafting of regulations), developing U.S. government policy positions on issues concerning the motion picture, recording, music publishing, broadcast, cable television and satellite industries, drafting proposed legislation, serving as a liaison to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, representing the U.S. at United Nations and other international conferences, and participating in Congressional hearings.
