Appointed a member of the regional executive committee and additionally seconded to corporate head office to manage: rebranding Afrox Healthcare (reporting to Managing Director), communicating merger issues with employees (reporting to Manager HR: Enabling Functions), communicating merger issues with doctors (reporting to National Manager: Enabling Services). Also given project responsibility for negotiating with the professional team to developing strategy, financial models and business plans for a rural hospital joint venture in Kokstad (now Netcare Kokstad Private Hospital).

Group included Chatsmed Garden Hospital, Mount Edgecombe, The Crompton Hospital and Westville Hospital. Served on the management committee formulating group strategies (only non-board member). Responsibility for doctor recruitment and retention, ambulance services, medical tourism initiative and occupational, health, diseases & environment committees. Managed corporate brands, market and competitor research and promotional activities such as the first "Well Baby" campaign. Introduced the first patient satifcxtion measurement methodology and Patient Focused Care Programme. Developed feasibility study (with Guardrisk, the leading provider of cell captive business and alternative risk transfer solutions in South Africa) for an in-house hospital cash plan to develop new markets.

Sales management

Recognised an opportunity in desktop publishing in Johannesburg and formed a specialist advertising, marketing and publishing company providing communications and presentation materials service to corporate clients. Successful in consulting on and designing business and economic presentation material and prestigious marketing brochures. National contract for printed stationery items for Tongaat-Hulett Group, Amanzimnyama

Researched the hypothesis that South African stainless steel could be exported as final goods, rather than as sheet and coil. Developed financial simulation models, business plans, databases, funding schemes and market support programmes. Prepared and presented an economic paper on the international ferrochromium industry.
