About Dalena Bennett
Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer | Robotics/Additive Manufacturing EnthusiastI love designing and innovating. Which is how I ended up pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. Using creativity to solve problems leaves me with a great sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. My time as an intern at General Electric exposed me to the lean manufacturing process. I got to observe and think actively about how to improve the manufacturing process. I created posters for the floor workers to improve defect detection, edited excel macros to reformat the quality inspection forms. I participated in lean six sigma events, designing new mechanisms and making full scale mock ups of machines to optimize the manufacturing process. I even worked with the floor operators and helped take measurements on manufactured parts for quality control. As a ungraduated student working for the Advanced Structures and Composites Center, I found a passion for additive manufacturing. I learned how to operate and care for fused deposition modeling (FDM) printers. I managed a print queue and strategically planned prints around my coworkers and I's schedules in the lab. All while keeping an eye out for fire safety and security protocol. While working for the Army Corp of Engineers as an intern at ERDC, I was was exposed to a research and development environment. I gained experience using Linux and ROS. I learned how to use Autodesk Inventor to create mounts and cases for various electronics, and also picked up skills in soldering.I pursued a master's in mechanical engineering briefly as a graduate research assistant. I learned how to use SolidWorks to do static, dynamic and frequency studies on a large scale building. After one year in the program, I decided I needed to take an academic break due to burnout. The next course of action for me is the workforce, but I am open to going back to finish the degree at some point. In the year that I have been away from school and work, I have been gaining skills in website development, mesh based design, animation, rendering and rigging. I challenged myself to design something in Blender everyday, despite not know how to use the application. Through this challenge I gained many new skills.Currently I am striving to become an expert in all forms of 3D modeling and analysis, eventually I would like to become multidisciplinary in programming and electronics.Check out my website! https://dalenabennett.com
