Dalene Abner’s career in higher education spanned more than three decades. Following an award-winning career as a newspaper reporter and editor, she became a writer at Wichita State University, followed by Purdue University and the Iowa State University Foundation, where the communications program she developed was recognized by CASE as a national model. Next, she went to work at the University of Central Missouri, where she first established a brand program, then later led teams to launch a new alumni magazine and retool the university's web site. She retired in 2018 as executive editor of UCM Magazine. During her career, she received many awards from CASE, UCDA, Admissions Marketing Report and other national organizations. Her more than 20 national CASE awards encompassed fundraising, student recruitment, annual reports, visual identities, advertising, web sites and periodicals.
