August 2013Master InventorSince July 2004I joined the IBM Globalization Leadership Team reporting to the corporate globalization executive. I was instrumental in producing a Globalization Test Wizard that identifies areas for globalization testing in software products. I am now Globalization Test architect for IBM software group and the owner of the GVT process.I have also redesigned and supervised the deployment of the following systems and processes in the our internal g11n management and planning system: - Software globalization assessment system that is used to assess IBM software.- Acquisition wizard system that is used to guide newly acquired teams through the IBM software globalization processes.- Deviation process (when teams do not meet the g11n requirements)- Notification and subscription services- Translation classification (translation decision making optimization)November 2002 - June 2004 IBM, Westford, MAI joined the GPD@Westford team which is part of the Global Product Development team of IBM to be the International Test lead for the Next Generation Mail product: a J2EE application that runs on Websphere and DB2 called IBM Lotus Workplace. I was in the Globalization Lab at the Lotusphere 2003 and in the Workplace Lab at Lotusphere 2004 in Orlando.

Initially employed as International Software Quality Engineer, I soon demonstrated my international product management skills and I became the International Program Manager for Notes and Domino. Duties included general "International Evangelism", decisions on the international impacts of features and bugs in our products, training of development, QE and support staff on international issues and requirements, provision of documents and machines to enable international development and testing, liaison with translation offices around the world to resolve enabling and localization issues, general international guru, etc. I attended the LotuSphere Berlin 1999 and 2000 as well as Lotusphere 2002 in Orlando as a 'Meet the developers' lab staff member to answer technical questions on the products. I was part of the Engineering Outreach team for Bayer AG and Deutsche Bank and in 2002 I was also a key grip for the Deutsche Bank early deployment of Domino 6.

Software Engineer at the XyQuest division of The Technology Group Inc. in Westford, MA. Major projects were (1) the creation of a German version of a Windows XyWrite word processing package (estimated size: 200,000 lines of code and 5,000 text resources) (2) the debugging and development of interface components for Windows products. Languages used: Embedded Basic, Visual Basic (34,000 lines of code), XPL, with some C and Assembler (3) development of dynamic Q&A interface for Wealth Transfer Planning. Resources used: Microsoft Developers Platform, CompuServe Forums. In 1994 I presented a XyWrite for Windows course to Minnesota Sun Publications.

Feb 1991 - Jan 1994: Employed by North American Software GmbH in Munich, Germany as a Technical Consultant for a range of German software packages under DOS and Windows including Drafix Windows CAD, Euroscript (word processor), askSam (database information manager), HiJaak (graphics conversion). All support and assistance to customers was conducted in German. In 1991 I gave two software courses to IBM Denmark in Copenhagen.In July 1992 I was promoted to Support Manager. Duties included supervision of Technical Support, localization of bugs, liaison and coordination with US companies for the translation and testing of new versions and packages. I was also responsible for the day to day running of the Novell network and the design, installation and maintenance of the inventory, customer database and financial software on the network.

I lectured Digital Image Processing and Computer Literacy in the department of Surveying and Mapping

Employed by the Computer Services Division at the University of Natal as an Information Center Consultant for both PCs and Sperry 1100 mainframe. In addition to assisting staff and students with their everyday computer hardware and software problems, specialized duties included giving courses on the use of word processing, and editing and compiling the University's Computer User Bulletin. A promotion to Senior Information Center Consultant was awarded after 6 months. I was also responsible for the writing, running and presentation of a digitally controlled model train (using Pascal) at the University's first Computer Fair in July 1989. Packages supported: XyWrite, SPSS, Kermit, Procomm, MS-DOS, Quattro Pro, dBase, GLitch, Nota Bene, etc.
