Robert Bosch Fellow

Berlin, German

The Bosch Fellowship strives to advance transatlantic relations by broadening Fellows’ professional competence and expertise, as well as by expanding their cultural horizons. The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program includes three main components: one or two high-level work phases, a series of professional seminars, and German language training. Fellows complete work phases in key German institutions such as the federal government and parliament, private corporations, and major German media and cultural organizations. Seminars focus on contemporary German and European issues, and also further the Fellows’ professional development.I spent my Fellowship focused on the potential planning impacts of Autonomous Vehicles, conducting research including a comprehensive literature review, speaking with auto manufacturers and other technology players about the status of the technology development and how they envision the deployment of AVs unfolding. I spent three months working with BuroHappold in Berlin, specifically focused on conducting a Design Sprint on the long term impacts of street design. We gathered experts from around Germany to spend an evening brainstorming and designing how Berlin's streets might change in the future.

As part of my Bosch Fellowship, I worked with BuroHappold on a number of projects related to Automated Vehicles and other Smart Cities Technologies. We gathered experts from the fields of mobility, academia, architecture, landscape architecture, technology, planning, auto manufacturing and more to brainstorm potential futures for three of Berlin's urban streets.
