As a Back End Clerk, I process all the returned merchandise. I add special order items to inventory, process damaged merchandise, pull items from the sales floor, and ship back items to vendors. Every product I process is documented and I manage the paper trail. I eat, sleep and breathe, PO#s, Bills of Lading, Return Authorizations, Model Numbers, shipping labels. I also assist the receiving team when I can by validating seals on trucks, receiving freight, and adding those items into our inventory system.

I used my time as a Customer Service Associate to hone my selling skills. In my first six months, I won an award for having the highest close rate for general merchandise protection plans, and I averaged $30,000 a month for invoiced sales. A very small percentage of my sales were invoiced because not customer needs a product delivered. My strategy for selling was to approach every customer. If I was greeted with an objection, like "I'm just browsing" I asked "What for?" and took them to the product they were looking for. I would then go through Budget, Authority, Needs, Timeline, and then talk about products Lowe's offered for them. I closed the sale with "Shall I get a cart to load your pushmower?"I also took on a special project to move an aisle of 8 bays and build 4 more. I did the training for the project at a different Lowe's store with supervisors and assistant managers, then I lead the team of 10 at our store. My team was officially approved for 2 overnight days, but we finished the project in 1 night.

I spent October 2018 obtaining my State certification, so that in November my 2 days of unpaid company provided training would set me up for financial success.I was not fluent with business strategies for employee benefits or sales practices, so I utilized my research abilities from Calvin. I listened to hours of podcasts from outside sales professionals on Spotify. I read books like the "Little Red Book of Selling" by Jeffery Gitmomer, as well as "Improving Service Quality: Achieving High Performance in the Public and Private Sectors" by Michael E. Milakovich.

From 18 to 20, Apex CNC Swiss was a great company to work for. I started day one with zero knowledge of machine tools. on my last day I could tear down, setup, edit Fanuc G code, and fulfill high tolerance customer orders unsupervised. I submitted PO requests for tooling and raw material for projects and ship product to customers.I learned a lot about operating a small businesses at Apex. It was here that I realized the importance of taking pride in my work and working to minimize waste. Manufacturing products with tolerances of .0002" leaves little room for error, and almost no room for piece reworks after the lathe finishes the product. A few memorable experiences include: networking with the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), attending the International Machine Tool Show (IMTS 2012), and meeting military officers at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.
