The NHLA helps hardwood companies achieve profitability and solve their top business challenges with data-driven, expert advice and hands-on training. The NHLA also specializes in hardwood product manufacturing, promotion, grading, quality control and regulations.

Western Wood Preservers Institute is a non-profit trade association representing the wood preservative industry in western North America. WWPI provides educational information to assist architects in the proper selection of pressure treated wood for safe and environmentally appropriate uses. In addition to preserved wood WWPI also works with wood fire retardants. WWPI trains architects, builders, code officials, engineers and consumers to ensure that preserved wood meets required standards based on the AWPA use category system. WWPI provides Technical assistance to any architect for any project although focus is primarily on western wood species. Within the industry WWPI manages and promotes certifications for Best Management Practices in aquatic environments, and CheckMark Quality Control standards for building code compliance.

Introduced thermal modification into mainstream North American industry by contributing to academic research along with marketing. Funded research with NSERC Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships. Coordinated studies on market potential, material properties and focus groups. Initiated marketing campaign including: distributing samples, building website, coordinating tradeshows, & advertising of thermally modified wood across Canada and the USA.

Supervised night shift moulder crew of 50 employees, initiated improvements for edge-glue process, optimized computer chop saw, and designed work stations.

Co-authored US Gap Analysis II based on 9,000 consumer and residential builder surveys on wood preferences. Researched and published report on Wood Market Trends in Europe. Assisted in research of product trade flow data, contributed research for numerous industry articles, and created reference database of market publications.

Organized initial market research for thermal modification in North America based on preserved wood and substitute products, determined best potential end products, created marketing strategy, and led focus group meetings between potential customers and clients.
