Greetings! My name is Dalstan Landers and I am a St. Lucian Native that migrated to the United States when I was only 9 years old. I came from a deeply rooted, hardworking St. Lucian family where the highest education level of my parents were a high school diploma. Being the second oldest in my family, I was determined to overcome the odds of being not only a child from a Caribbean immigrant family, but being an African American male here in America today. I am a first generation college student meaning that I am the first in my intermediate family to attended a higher education institution. I am a student here at Valencia College majoring in Computer Science with dreams to make my family happy, accumulate money to take care of my loved ones and the people back in the hometown of St. Lucia. I plan to utilize my degree in Computer Science and advance the technology within third world countries like, St. Lucia. I want to work as either a programmer or a analyst for governmental companies such as Lockheed Martin. All in all, I want to bring change to this world and bring light to STEM field especially, to other minorities that may not think they have a chance within this world to make a difference and enter fields that are not dominated by people of color. Later in life, I want to further my education to the master's level to expand my education and extend my professional experience and opportunities to network and learn many things within this field of computer science.
