About Dalton Snyder

I am currently the R&D Manager at the Chem/Bio Center of Excellence at Teledyne FLIR developing CBRNE detectors (miniature/portable mass spectrometers). We are developing the next big thing in chemical and biological threat detection and characterization using proprietary 2D Mass Spec technology. I worked under Graham Cooks (PhD) and Vicki Wysocki (postdoc) to invent and/or commercialize two-dimensional tandem mass spectrometry (2D MS/MS or 2DMS) in linear ion traps and miniature surface-induced dissociation cells for protein complex characterization. My work has been licensed by small and large mass spec manufacturers alike, and I continue to innovate to improve the capabilities of modern instrumentation.>30 publications (technology/instrument development and applications), several patents, and >30 presentations on ion trap mass spectrometry, portable mass spectrometry, native mass spectrometry, and surface-induced dissociationExperienced with a variety of instrumentation, including quadrupole ion traps (benchtop and miniature), triple quads, Q-IM-TOF, (15 T) FT-ICR, and Orbitraps (including UHMR). Other general experience includes native mass spectrometry, surface-induced dissociation, ion mobility, quantitative liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry, trace level element quantitation by ICP-MS, LC-MS, GC-MS, general ion optics, instrument design and modification (AutoCAD + SIMION), instrument miniaturization, instrument diagnostics and repair, and object-oriented programming (C/C++/Matlab/python). Hard-working, creative, collaborative, and high technical ability.

I work under Prof. Vicki Wysocki for the P41 Resource for Native Mass Spectrometry-Guided Structural Biology. Our focus is developing novel methods of surface-induced dissociation (SID) in various instrument configurations (Q-IM-TOF, FT-ICR, Orbitrap, etc.) and combining SID with other mass spectrometric techniques for structural biology studies.During my tenure we commercialized SID for the first time and began forays into Alzheimer’s disease research.
