Dalton Lunga is a group leader and senior R&D staff scientist at ORNL. He works with multi-disciplinary research teams to make tools and algorithms that take advantage of the confluence of big geospatial data and computing to solve problems of greater impact on society. His R&D includes machine learning for high-performance computing, advanced geospatial search and retrieval workflows, ethics of GeoAI systems, and multimodal analytics. Previously he was a senior research scientist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa, where he co-founded the flagship DSIDE data science program. Dalton has published over 60 refereed articles, including book chapters, journal, and conference articles. He received his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Purdue University. He chaired the 4th ACM SIGSPATIAL2021 GeoAI Workshop.
