My role as Project Engineer is to bridge the technical engineering team with commercial operations through project delivery, leadership, HSE management, scheduling, scope control, procurement, budgeting, cost control, resource management, contract oversight, quality assurance, and reporting for end-to-end project success.While working closely with cross-functional teams, including internal and external stakeholders, engineers, tradespeople, technicians, consultants, suppliers, and project managers, I ensure project success by maintaining technical accuracy, quality, and adherence to project disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.• Managing project activities and resources, internal and external, to ensure on-schedule and on-budget project delivery.• Monitoring project progress, identifying potential risks or issues, developing, and implementing effective mitigation strategies.• Performing supplier and contractor management, negotiations, variations, dispute resolution and escalation as required.• Conducting regular site visits to oversee construction, installation, and commissioning activities.• Preparing detailed engineering documentation, including layouts, schematics, and technical specifications.• Collaborating with the engineering team to develop project plans, designs, and specifications.• Managing project permitting and approvals process in a timely manner.• Providing technical leadership and support to the project team, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.• Developing, maintaining and presenting project documentation, including weekly reports, schedule, budget, risk to key stakeholders.• Leading compliance with relevant RayGen codes of conduct, work health and safety management plans and policies, HSE regulations, codes, and standards.

Nairobi

Construction Project management - Electrical MV & LVKey Contributions: Managing all electrical engineering aspects of the construction of the New Office Annex, a US$225,000,000 project at the US Embassy in Nairobi.  Quality Assurance – Managing all HSEQ aspects of the electrical installations in the project by conducting daily monitoring of construction activities, including a 225kW solar PV installation, to ensure contractor compliance with the contract specifications. Championing compliance with the US NEC code, NFPA, LEED, NEMA, EM-385, OSHA, and other local and international standards agencies. Reviewing and analyzing submittals, material samples, shop drawings and other technical documents submitted by contractors for compliance with OBO standards and requirements. Reviewing drafted engineering drawings, electrical load calculations, technical specifications and independent government estimates for the numerous construction change-orders during the project.

Power Systems Maintenance EngineerKey Contributions: Ascertained that all operations and maintenance work in the department was carried out in accordance with specifications and regulations, with due regards to safety, operability and maintainability. Designed and maintained high voltage energy systems in Nairobi and neighboring regions. Issued technical advice and direction to both external customers and internal engineering functions. Carried out annual/monthly preventive maintenance for existing power systems, planned and monitored through monthly work plans and daily output reports of each team. Headed the operation and maintenance of primary substations and all underground cable networks for conveying electrical energy from the bulk supply to the consumers’ terminals in Nairobi West region. Supervised field teams of technicians and junior engineers, ensuring they received the appropriate on-the-job training and thereafter performed annual performance appraisals as per the company’s policy. Participated in various technical tender evaluations and represented the company in several overseas factory acceptance tests in USA, China, Egypt, France, Czech Republic, India etc, to verify quality of materials and equipment prior to procurement.
