Damia December is an Executive Assistant at Veterans Rebuilding Life, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that assists all victims of war. She is also the Founder of healme.nyc, a holistic wellness company in Long Island City that offers Reiki, yoga, alternative medicine, and health workshops for the community. Damia graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with degrees in Psychology and Anthropology. She began her career as a clinical researcher focused on identifying and dismantling the barriers to health within marginalized communities. Published in the American Journal of Community Psychology, her research emphasized the importance of using both traditional and alternative medical approaches at the grassroots level in order to create lasting change. Damia moved to New York City in 2013 and worked as a children’s behavior therapist at local foster care agencies and in therapeutic schools. As a Registered Behavior Technician, Damia helped children and families cope with severe trauma by harnessing their unique strengths to develop new skills and meet their own needs. Her decade of experience working with survivors of trauma and expertise in human behavior and community psychology inspired her to create healme.nyc, an alternative medicine and wellness center that offers treatment for every component of health: mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual. She believes that health and happiness should be accessible to everyone. Her passion is to connect people with the forms of wellness that will be the most effective for them while building positive healing relationships within communities that need it most.
