CurrentThe Veteran Outreach Program Specialist serves as a principal outreach staff member for the Military. This target population Reserve and National Guard members returning from Operations relating to the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), Operation New Dawn (OND), and other operations.As the Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, I establish outreach service provision with military installations. — Reserve and National Guard facilities within my designated geographical area. I can provide transitional assistance program briefings to Military, Reserve, and National Guard personnel transitioning from combat service/active duty.One of my tasks is developing, distributing outreach material, including brochures, fact sheets, web content, and other targeted information and highlighting Vet Center services, locations and working with the local media, including television, radio, and print media, to inform returning service members and their families to Vet Center services.Providing information to VA staff and other federal agencies, community agencies regarding Vet Center services, as well as the GWOT transition, what life is like after military service. One of my goals is to develop and maintain working relationships with a network of service provider agencies and individuals in all areas relevant to returning GWOT service members and their families. Another area I am working on is to organize and participate in a myriad of community activities and events that have a high probability of GWOT veterans present. Such as; "Welcome Home" parades, picnics, Veteran Service Organization meetings, events, GWOT service recognition events.
