About Damian Strudwick
Damian qualified as a small animal veterinary surgeon in 2003, from the RVC, London, and has since gained practical experience as both a first opinion clinician and a referral surgeon.He has a specific interest and extensive experience in referral surgery (orthopaedic, neurologic, soft tissue and minimally invasive) having attended attained the ESVPS GPCert(SAS) after a 2-year modular Small Animal Surgery course in 2009 and built on that knowledge and experience ever since. Damian has further interests in multimodal anaesthesia and analgesia and local anaesthesia techniques.He is an experienced diagnostic imager, including CT scanning, basic abdominal ultrasonography and endoscopy, and has interests extending to rehabilitation, trying to ensure a holistic approach to his surgical patients.Within his last employed position, Damian had a significant role in the hospital's growth towards becoming a referral hospital, increasing his personal workload from approx 20% referral surgery to approx 80%. He was also one of the primary forces in developing a successful educational course sideline for internal and internationally-external vet and nurse delegates, after arranging a collaboration with an external veterinary supply company.In 2019 Damian established the first peripatetic surgical referral service in Denmark. "Den Engelske Dyrlæge" (The English Vet) offers in-house operations and further education and mentoring to veterinary clinics within soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, arthroscopy and laparoscopy. Damian also lectures on surgical, anaesthetic and analgesic subjects both in-house and as an external lecturer for various veterinary suppliers in Denmark.In 2024, Den Engelske Dyrlæge became the first accredited Zero Pain Practice in Denmark, and the first peripatetic surgical service to achieve accreditation in the world, proving he is also a first-mover in modern multimodal anaesthetic and analgesic techniques.
