The subject of the study was to identify the effects of cutting angles on tool life when machining CGI (compacted graphite iron) in surfacing milling operations.A milling cutter prototype has been designed and manufactured. Inserts have been produced and grinded inspired by design of experiment method from Taguchi.Two different grades of tungsten carbide have been coated using PVD and CVD processes.Cutting loads, tool life durations (flank wear), surface evaluation (burrs, breakages,...) have been monitored.
