I am passionate about teaching and mentoring medical students. I enjoy merging ophthalmology with clinical informatics to improve physician satisfaction and patient outcomes. I also fight blindness with LASER and Artificial Intelligence. My strength is teaching graduate medical education for medical students about the eye, methods for ophthalmologists to become board certified, and grand rounds on how ophthalmology applies to different specialties. I grew up in Houston, graduated from the Dr. Michael Debakey High School for Health Professions in the Texas Medical Center, and served in the United States Army Reserves. During the Gulf War, I was deployed to South Korea. While still in the US Army Reserves, I graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Then I completed an internship in general surgery in Dallas and an ophthalmology residency in Los Angeles. My interests have resulted in publications and editorial appointments. I specialize in LASER eye surgery to improve vision and prevent blindness in our military veterans. I am currently faculty for the area medical schools, and a full-time ophthalmologist at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.
