Project Summary; Collaborating with the Principal Consultant to, Design, Plan, Manage, Construct and Commission a Ground Water Treatment Plant at Godfrey and Hirst’s Braybrook site.> Design; P&ID flow diagrams, 3D CAD, enclosure ventilation systems, containment bund, support structures, fluid transfer piping, gravity separator and air stripper tank, fluid flow control devices (Nozzles and Orifices), safety rails/slip rails in accordance with Australian Standards, system operating ranges and timing sequences. > Planning; Treatment plant floor plan, development of basic Gantt charts, manufacturing sequences, equipment hire, device and material purchasing, tooling requirements and sub-contractor works.> Management; Sub-contractor works, project deadline management, parts suppliers and distributors, liaise with client and site engineers, risk assessments, complete site JSA’s and SWMS, organise contractor and sub-contractor legal documents prior to performing On-Site works, participate in HAZAN presentations with site engineers and client.> Construction; Fabrication and manufacture of the plants containment bund, system support structures, fluid transfer piping, safety rails/slip railing, component and electrical wiring bracing, surge tank and tank modifications, GAC (Granulated Activated Carbon) filters, enclosure ventilation system, preparation and painting. My temporary contract at Elite (Subsidiary of BP) primarily involved writing technical documents called DTP's (Desktop procedures) for departments that have been offshored to Bangalore and Manila. These documents were used as a tool during knowledge transfer for new employees at the Bangalore and Manilla Elite/BP headquarters.Responsibilities include:> Liaising with Elite/BP employees to develop accurate procedure manuals.> Liaising with other Technical Writers / Team Leaders and Project Managers. > Produce High and Low level technical explanations.> Process Mapping.> Meet DTP deadlines for Knowledge Transfer.> Raise 'Roadblocks' and suggest possible 'Solutions' during general meeting's.

My position at Victoria University involved Research, Design and Prototyping of new technologies available on the market as well as:> Design, Manufacture and Construction of physics Instrumentation used as an aid to educate tertiary level students.> Assist and participate in developing interactive high school outreach programs.> University Marketing: Design, Development, Manufacturing and Construction of Arts exhibitions and displays utilizing new technologies.

I have been involved with Luss Engineering for the past twelve months. Luss as a business has been set up to service a wide range of Engineering projects thus, accurate control of project lead time and quality is paramount. With my skills obtained from my Bachelor degree I have been able to participate in the companies tendering processes, estimation, labor hire (contractors), business practice and operation. During my time at Luss, my hands on exposure and other technical knowledge has also allowed me to further participate in the following:> General Engineering Fabrication and Machining: Understand Engineering drawings, perform Fabrication (Cutting, grinding, drilling, Mig welding, Oxy welding, Tig welding and plasma cutting), Machining (Turning and milling).> Remediation Systems (Water treatment plants): Understand system plans and perform Fabrication, Machining, plumbing, sensor installation and quality assurance checks. > Precision Machining: Hydraulic cylinders, turbine shafts, marine, railway and auto-motive components.

Formula SAE is a team competition that is nationally and internationally run by universities. It is specifically designed for undergraduates and PHD students, where they design and build a small open wheeled race car and represent their university in various events. The car is judged against other universities by its design, dynamic events and budget. The competition provides a great basis of engineering/practical experience prior to course graduation. During my time being apart of the project my roles within the VUM (Victoria University Motorsport) team included:> Production Manager / Power-train Team Captain.> Assisted with major sponsorship tenders and final contract agreements between Luss Engineering and the VUM team.> Liaise with company Directors, Machinists and Fabricators to ensure the successful completion of Formula SAE race car components were within schedule, budget and quality.> Responsible for the supervision, equipment training (powertools, lathe, mill, MIG/TIG welding etc), management, factory floor induction, implementation of OHNS policies and basic first-aid treatment of fellow Formula SAE team members working at Luss Engineering after business hours. > Involved in the conceptual design of the Power-Train system, Steering system, Exhaust system and Suspension system components of the Formula SAE-A race car. > Provide manufacturers with 3D CAD models and technical drawings of components of the Formula SAE race car that are ready for manufacture.> Participate in the manufacture of components, fabrication, machining (CNC) and assembly of the Formula SAE race car.

DPE is an Australian Market leader in the manufacture of competitive race karts. Prior to the completion of my course Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering I had undertaken my required 12 week work experience with this company. Ultimately, work experience at DPE had turned into an on going part-time paid position, where by I assisted once a week for another 12 month period whilst completing my college studies. During my time with this company I had been exposed to the following:> Research and Development department: Observed and assisted in proto-type race kart chassis Fabrication (Working from Engineering drawings), modification of prototype race kart trolley after field testing to improve operation and reduce overall weight. > Machining department: Assist in prototype component design/modification using CAD software (Auto-desk Inventor), basic programming of CNC lathe and mills using edge cam software, CNC and machining centre general operation (Loading, unloading, operation and quality assurance inspection of finnished components based on Engineering drawings and Q.A sheets).> Fabrication department: Understanding of department management procedures, planning, scheduling and quality insurance measures. Involved in General Fabrication working from Engineering drawings (Material preparation, Cutting, Drilling, Mig welding, Tube bending, Pressing, Punching, Folding, Notching and hardness testing to ensure quality of material is retained).
