I used to talk about my software architecture and product skills. Over 20 years at a company, one wears a lot of hats (if one so chooses) and I have.Over the past couple of years, I've found an entirely different focus and passion, and it's one that my earlier geek would be shocked at.I am striving, to my absolute limit, to be a good, thoughtful leader. "Forget the old '10x programmer'," I say to myself, "as a leader, you're a 100x programmer! a 1000x!". That might be a little hyperbolic (for now) but there is truth:I strive to inspire, to educate, to raise up my direct reports, my peers, and my own boss. Things like career development, feedback and improvement cycles, filling the pipeline (or bench), change management, and oh so much more to learn and practice and promulgate.Also I design some software and write some code... but really that's secondary (even tertiary) to what is really providing worth to my company, my reports, my peers, and myself.
