Dan Milbrath is the founder and owner of Costa Verde, a successful landscaping, gardening and maintenance service company in Victoria, BC, Canada. Dan started the business in 2007 as a young and entrepreneurial labourer, mowing lawns, weeding garden beds and doing odd jobs for local neighbours in Victoria, BC. His love of the outdoors and gardening, his drive and his professional values of integrity soon attracted more business—and employees. Between 2007 and 2017, Dan expanded his business and saw 50% YOY growth. At its peak, Dan had more than 50 full-time employees working year-round working for dozens of local clients. His team was made up of like-minded, hardworking, career-focused people, all of whom helped establish Costa Verde’s culture today. From 2018 onward, Dan began learning from and working with business consultants to strengthen core business functions and growth strategies. Costa Verde now has three core divisions: landscaping, gardening and maintenance. Each division has a dedicated crew manager who oversees the customer journey from initial contact and estimates through to project design, installation, completion and follow-up. Dan has kept the initial culture alive while establishing a successful small business with ~35 professional landscapers, masons, horticulturists and experienced gardeners who provide expert services every day.
