In this role, I work across multiple desks in our newsroom to bring readers visual context to WSJ’s journalism. This requires collaboration with reporters and editors to understand the impact of political and economic policies in our stories, using wire services and commissioned photographers to provide a visual narrative for their work. My main coverage areas are world news, finance/economics, domestic politics, national security, and gun policy.

Taught photographic storytelling and editing to upperclassmen and first-year graduate students.

For two years, I was the photo editor for Chalkbeat and Votebeat, now under the umbrella of Civic News Company.In this role, I worked with newsroom staff to enhance their stories with existing and commissioned photography. This was done through pulling photographs from Getty Images, our existing archives and courtesy photographs, hiring and coordinating freelance photographers across our eight bureaus, and working in the Chorus CMS to create layouts that highlight our visuals and maintain audience readability. I am particularly proud of the diverse network of amazing freelance photographers we created, working with over 50 independent photographers across the country. I also maintained our image archive, strengthened existing partnerships with other newsrooms and created new relationships with outside organizations, while guiding the aesthetic and ethical framework of the newsroom in how they use photographs and who they hire to tell stories visually.

Worked as a photo editing intern from June to August 2019. Spent two weeks as Greater New York photo editor, which involved assigning stories to local photographers, selecting photographs for digital and print publication, and building photos into digital stories. Filled in as a Life & Arts photo editor for two weeks, which included requesting photographs from outside sources, photo research for stories using wire services, and building responsive layouts using the Wall Street Journal's content management systems. Photographed a few stories for the newspaper, two of which ran in print, including a story for US News that ran digitally and on the paper's A2. Worked as a contributing photo editor on an immersive project about the Hong Kong protests and a retrospective on the war in Afghanistan.

Conducted law enforcement operations on Fort Campbell, KY, providing community policing and maintaining good law and order on an installation caterting to over 200,000 personnel on any given day. In a combat environment, conducted over 300 tactical missions, ranging from Host Nation Police mentorship training, presence patrols, route reconnaissance, and armed escort. Also provided area security, by means of patrol and also in static positions.Responsible for the day-to-day training and mentorship of a platoon-sized unit. In Civil Affairs, worked in Lynn Haven, FL as a liaison between the US government, local emergency responders, and Non-Governmental relief organizations in developing a FEMA disaster contingency plan for the city.Given highest possible evaluations by superiors due to overall level of competence and leadership consistently while serving as a Team Leader and Team Sergeant.
