I’m currently working as a news photo editor at The Wall Street Journal, where I work between several coverage areas including world news, domestic politics, security, finance and economics.Previously, I worked as the first photo editor for Civic News Company, a nonprofit newsroom organization comprised of Chalkbeat and Votebeat, as a part-time instructor at Syracuse University's Newhouse School, and as the 2023-24 Safety and Security Fellow at The New York Times.My experience in the US Army has made me passionate about the intersection of journalism and safety, and using the things I’ve learned to keep our reporters safe while gathering news. For two years, I was the photo editor for Chalkbeat and Votebeat, now under the umbrella of Civic News Company.In this role, I worked with newsroom staff to enhance their stories with existing and commissioned photography. This was done through pulling photographs from Getty Images, our existing archives and courtesy photographs, hiring and coordinating freelance photographers across our eight bureaus, and working in the Chorus CMS to create layouts that highlight our visuals and maintain audience readability. I am particularly proud of the diverse network of amazing freelance photographers we created, working with over 50 independent photographers across the country. I also maintained our image archive, strengthened existing partnerships with other newsrooms and created new relationships with outside organizations, while guiding the aesthetic and ethical framework of the newsroom in how they use photographs and who they hire to tell stories visually.
