PRINCIPAL R&D SCIENTIST/LEAD SCIENTIST, Sigma-Aldrich Life Sciences, Regenerative Medicine/Stem Cell Biology/ADME-T Cell Line Development, 10/2007-6/2014.Responsible for leading a program to develop cell lines and the appropriate cell based assays utilizing zinc finger nuclease (ZFN) technology to modify the genome of pluripotent stem cells and other cells for regenerative medicine and ADME/T applications. This includes the development, genetic modification and corresponding expansion of cells for transfer to an Operations setting Responsibilities include the oversight of both senior level and junior level scientists (including performance reviews and assignment of goals), maintenance of all required documentation related to design control (i.e. ISO9001, cGMP, 5S), project management and involvement in the planning and budget associated with the group projects.

Responsible for leading a program to develop novel techniques to enhance the efficient design of cell culture media and cell lines for the production of recombinant proteins. This includes projects directed toward the discovery of important pathways in Chinese Hamster cells using microarray applications as well as programs to increase productivity using novel directed evolution techniques.

Designed assays and culture media for clinically applicable systems such as stem cells (hematopoietic, mesenchymal, pluripotent, and neural) and primary cells (keratinocytes, dendritic cells, T-cells and neurons/glia). Responsible for designing novel assays suitable for the verification, functional testing and quality control testing of the products. Developed techniques using microarray technology to allow more focused/efficient design of cell culture media. Involved in the training of the sales force and customer sales calls, for the products developed in Cell Culture R&D.
