When I was younger, my parents told me that I would most likely have a job where I could help and inspire others every day; a teacher, a nurse, a counsellor, that kind of thing. Why? Because in a world where people seemed to hate so freely, I always loved liberally; always offering support and extending kindness to try and help others live a better, healthier, happier, and more beautiful life, by encouraging them to reach their full potential, or helping them in any small way to achieve their goals and aspirations. But, I always thought that my dream was to become a writer; working from home, sitting in my sunny garden, sipping on vanilla lattés whilst tippedy-tapping away on my laptop so that I could create wonderful, powerful works of literary art. It seemed like an appropriate dream given my profound appreciation for words and my BA Hons. degree in English - not to mention that on occasion, my spirit becomes inhabited by the ghost of a 19th Century poet who enjoys taking my grey matter for a soulful spin. And whilst my love for the literary encouraged me to gravitate towards writing as a career, (I even started my own copywriting business at one point), I realised that I yearned to do more; to do something different. I wanted to do a job where my love for words and my love for helping others could both be utilised creatively to make a real difference - a positive impact - not just in peoples lives but across society as a whole. So, I am now extremely grateful to be working with Dimensions UK as an Internal Resourcing Consultant for South Wales, Oxfordshire & Warwickshire, and the Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire regions. Here, I know I'm making a real difference every day because not only am I helping to recruit amazing people to support those with learning disabilities and/or autism who've welcomed us into their homes to live their best lives - the lives they've always wanted to live, I'm also helping people gain better, more meaningful and richly rewarding jobs (where they'll be supported and encouraged to excel and have a better life also), and I'm playing my part in helping to stop the stigma and cultural biases that our society has towards the health and social care sector.
