Job Duties• Monitoring and controlling the operation of the distribution system administering permissions to field staff to operate a device or by utilizing the SCADA system. • Writing, approving and directing switching programs • Coordinating system operations and switching with other utilities, REAs and independent power producers. • Analyzing planned and unplanned power outages with field staff to improve restoration practices. • Responding to off-normal situations including outages, alarms and managing emergencies. • Coordinating with Operational Engineering to manage load transfers. • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders as necessary. • Providing input into development of protection code and system operating policies and procedures. • Anticipating peak demand periods or emergencies and proactively plan/coordinate the required work. • Exploring, identifying, initiating and leading improvements for processes, practices and tools. • Participating and providing input into the development and delivery of training materials and activities. • Assisting with the mentoring and coaching of new System Operators as required • Running all FortisAlberta Control Centre computer application• Thorough understanding of the operation of distribution systems, electrical systems, and/or other relevant experience required to efficiently and effectively operate the system. • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with and internal and external customers. • Ability to analyze information and make decisions independently during high volume periods and under stressful conditions. • Demonstrated ability to contribute to continuous improvement, challenge the ‘status quo’ and provide sound recommendations to improve processes. • Excellent organizational and time management skills in order to manage multiple priorities and competing demands. • Working knowledge of computer applications

Job Duties:• Confirm scope, prepare or provide input to estimates on a diverse range of distribution projects. • Ensure the accuracy of all project data in SAP, AM/FM and the project management tool. • Travel and perform field checks as required. • Perform Risk and Hazard Assessments.• Stake and witch new services, as required. • Identify possible environmental concerns and initiate Environmental Field Reports. • Apply standards and check designs based on codes and current engineering policies. • Coordinate the installation and commissioning of distribution equipment. • Provide informal coaching and guidance to other projects team members. • Provide technical guidance to customers, stakeholders, and external consultants. • Participate on committees, special projects and business process teams. • Special projects or other duties as assigned.Demonstrated Skills and Abilites • Adaptability - ability to change and be flexible within a changing environment. • Ability to work effectively with various types of contractors. • Proven ability to work within a team environment or independently without direct supervision; this includes setting a good example, promoting and contributing to the success of the entire team. • Demonstrated ability to apply sound judgment in troubleshooting and problem solving. • Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage numerous assignments and competing demands. • Strong customer service focus with a proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
