One of my passions is community service. As a member of the Rotary Club in Pinehurst, NC, it was my privilege to coordinate meal packaging events with Rise Against Hunger. Together, we gathered hundreds of volunteers from the local community, raised over $80,000 and packaged more than 250,000 meals. Those meals got distributed to schools in countries of extreme poverty. My family and I visited Nicaragua to experience the other end of the meal packaging events. We got to actually meet and grow to love the recipients. All the meals were delivered to schools, which provided an incentive for the kids to attend. Even girls, who are often denied education, started going to school. We saw the light come on in their eyes.
