About Dan B.
I started my career executing network infrastructure projects while working on the DataComm Support Contract at NASA Ames Research Center. I was working at NASA when the Challenger space shuttle blew up during launch. After the accident, NASA required all employees to go through the Crosby Method Total Quality Management training program. Some of the main ideas in Crosby TQM were continuous improvement, constant feedback, and encouragement of process participants to speak up when something wasn't working. The TQM principals really resonated with me and I incorporated many of them into my work and behavior. After working at NASA ARC, I leveraged practical experience and professional training all the way up to doing DevOps & Infrastructure As Code. This broad experience, desire to learn, and push for continuous improvement enables me to pick up new skills easily, work cross-functionally, and to quickly identify cause when investigating issues. I’ve worked on several globally distributed, multi-disciplinary teams and understand the criticality of good communication in the achievement of organizational goals.

Primary support person for Oracle WebLogic 12c, and co-support person for Informatica & Microstrategy. Integrated the code delivery for multiple acquired companies into Jenkins. Extensive performance tuning for JVM's and OS's used by WebLogic and Jenkins. Owner of the Packer and InSpec build process for general use and Jenkins AMI's. Created shell scripts to automate day to day activities and manage files on servers.

Redesigned the proposed architecture for the migration of WebLogic to AWS which resulted in an annual savings of $1.1M. Responsible for the oversight and evidence gathering for several SOX controls related to Informatica and Microstrategy.

Installed and maintained all Siebel installations for ServicePoint and MyFieldPoint development, test and production. All Siebel app servers ran on virtualized servers (LPAR's) on IBM Power 6 & 7 servers. Redesigned the Siebel high availability architecture which resulted in a $10M savings over 5 years. Primary resource for investigating and resolving production and high priority issues in the development and testing environments. Lead technical administrator on a team of 3 people. Designed a Dev-Test-UAT-Prod layout which allowed for 3 concurrent development streams. Siebel was integrated with many other systems via MQSeries, Siebel EAI and EIM. When something went wrong, teams would always blame Siebel first. I'd go through everything on the Siebel side and if no issues were found, work with other teams to investigate their app/system to find the cause and get it resolved. It got to the point where the Incident Management Team would bring me into calls for things I didn't directly support to help find the cause of issues/outages.
