As Manager, First Line Risk & Assurance, I was responsible for the successful implementation and execution of first line risk, compliance, assurance and governance activities across all Business Units of IAG New Zealand. This encompassed leading a wider team of 35 Risk & Assurance professionals of which 20 were direct reports. In addition to people leadership, I was primarily accountable for developing and executing the First Line Risk & Assurance Maturity Strategy & Plan across IAG New Zealand. Improving IAG’s risk maturity is a strategic priority reflected within IAG New Zealand’s Balanced Scorecard.The First Line Risk & Assurance Maturity Strategy & Plan encompass all aspects of risk maturity including Risk Conduct & Culture, Risk Awareness, Capability & Capacity, Risk Management Practices, Governance, Reporting & Decision Making, Insurance Risk Management Practices and Reinsurance Risk Management Practices

As Manager, Risk & Assurance, I was responsible for the successful implementation and execution of 1st line risk, compliance, assurance and governance activities across the Customer & Consumer and General Counsel & Reputation Divisions of IAG including our offshore operations in India and Manila. This encompasses our Consumer Brands consisting of AMI, State, NAC, Lantern and Bank Partners Westpac, Co-Op, ASB and BNZ. In addition, my remit included Customer & Marketing, Legal, Internal & External Communications and Corporate Relations. Leading a wider team of 30 Risk & Assurance professionals and with 7 direct reports, my responsibilities included 1st line risk strategy execution, risk management, compliance, issue & incident management, business continuity, assurance, quality and the management response of internal audit requirements.As a trusted risk advisor to the Customer & Consumer and General Counsel & Reputation Leadership Teams, my role was pivotal in driving a risk awareness culture ensuring business decisions are within the boundaries of the Board agreed Risk Appetite Statement.

As Manager, Risk & Customer Service for IAG’s Direct Insurance Division, I was responsible for formulating and implementing the 1st line risk strategy covering risk management, compliance, issue & incident management, business continuity and internal audit activity across AMI, State, Lantern and NAC.I was also accountable for formulating and delivering a new Quality Assurance Framework covering our Customer Delivery, Operations and Claims divisions. I also provided risk subject matter expertise across an enterprise wide review of IAG’s Customer Complaints and Customer Feedback Frameworks and was the lead Risk Advisor on IAG’s Digital Transformation Project.

Through demonstrating sound underwriting decisions, I attained a delegated authority to write global and domestic risks of up to 5mil AUD. Working closely with the broker community, I was the key contact for all new business inquiries whilst supporting direct clients and brokers with midterm adjustments and renewals.
