Provide supervision and direction to Custodial staff within an assigned area (60 to 80 buildings) during the evening shift from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.Responsibilities include: Providing supervision, direction and daily assessment of custodial staff to ensure that approved standards to cleaning, maintenance and security are maintained; Providing ongoing training to custodial staff; Assisting in the hiring of new employees including the coordination of information sessions and training for newly hired staff; Responding to daily issues and emergencies that occur during night shift operations related to permits, security, flood, fire, gas leaks, power loss, equipment failure, etc.; Being available as the on call duty Supervisor for afterhours/weekend emergencies; Evaluating staff including identifying areas of concern and making recommendations for improvement; Other duties as assigned.

Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment within the school building; Maintaining a safe and satisfactory general appearance of the school grounds and building exterior; Operating and monitoring mechanical equipment related to heating and air handling; Record-keeping and preparation of various reports; Coordinating and scheduling work of custodians and/or school attendants; Ordering supplies and maintaining sufficient inventory.

Served as President of CUPE Local 2544. The local represents approximately 1,500 Custodians, Maintenance Workers and Food Services Group Leaders and Assistants employed by the Peel District School Board. Chair all meetings of the Local Union. Approve and enforce the CUPE Constitution and the Local's By-laws; ensure that all officers perform their assigned duties; introduce new members and conduct them through the initiation ceremony; sign all cheques and ensure that the Local’s funds are used only as authorized or directed by the Constitution, By-laws, or vote of the membership.

Sat on the Executive of CUPE Local 2544 as Recording Secretary. Kept a full, accurate and impartial account of the proceedings of all regular and/or special Membership and Board meetings; Recorded all alterations in the Local’s By-laws; Answered correspondence and fulfilled other secretarial duties as directed by the Executive Board; Provided all correspondence by way of email and published newsletters to the General Membership; Prepared and distributed all circulars and notices to members; Was responsible for the design and continued update of all content on the Local’s website: www.cupe2544.ca. This website went on to win the award: “Best Website Content By a Volunteer” by the Canadian Association of Labour Media. It also won honorable mention at the CUPE National convention; Was responsible for both the Twitter and Facebook social media feeds used by the Local; Was also responsible for unionized campaigns such as the well attended “Ontario Day of Action” where the Local had 150 members in attendance; Chair of the Local’s Workloads Committee and standing member on numerous additional committees such as: the Social Committee, Bylaws Committee, Negotiating Committee, Labour Management Committee and Political Action Committee.
