Worked on investigative radio documentaries including File on 4, 5 live Investigates and ad hoc programmes, including a collaboration with BBC Arabic for the World Service. Won a Ruby Award for Best Digital Impact. Also worked as a reporter for BBC News Online

Wrote Bowraville, a book about an unsolved serial killing, in which Dan’s reporting was instrumental in seeing the prime suspect sent back to court. The book was described as “exceptional”, “a heart-breaking, gut-punching masterwork of long-form journalism” and won a Ned Kelly award for true crime writing

Wrote and presented The Queen & Zak Grieve, a documentary that led to the early release of a man serving a life sentence, as well as changes to the laws that sent him to jail. The series won a Kennedy Award and was among the official selections at the Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo and the BANFF World Media Festival

● Wrote and presented Bowraville, a podcast series about an unsolved serial killing, which led to the suspect being sent back to court. This was recognised with two Walkley awards, the Sir Keith Murdoch and Les Kennedy awards, among others● Won further awards for investigative journalism and feature writing, and spent five years covering the national child abuse royal commission● Regularly acted as Sydney chief-of-staff. Established a mentoring programme for cadet journalists and volunteered as a peer supporter for his colleagues

● Produced In Your Arms, a seven-month local radio and online series following a battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment throughout their deployment to Afghanistan. This won a national Gold Gillard award in 2011● Reported for two Radio 4 documentaries on the first evacuation of an entire island population due to climate change, in Papua New Guinea. This formed the basis of a successful national lecture tour for the Royal Geographical Society in 2009

Wrote Carry Me Home, a book about the death of Jake Kovco, the first Australian soldier to die in Iraq
