With the help of dedicated Architecture, TPM support I lead an amazing team of 15 distinct teams and 200+ engineers spanning Australia and the USA.ISM is responsible for building, operating and scaling some of the Platform services that power our Cloud products and the internal Developer Platform which all of the 7000+ developers at Atlassian use to develop and maintain it's services. We are SMEs in the domains of Network, Compute and Storage infrastructure. As part of this role I define strategy, operational direction & measurements, and ongoing optimization of the teams and processes.Achievements:- Built and hydrated Atlassians FedRAMP (med) platform infrastructure.- Reduced operational risks by 25% over the previous year.- Eliminated circular platform (startup) dependencies. -
Head Of Observability / Network & Service CommunciationsAtlassian Nov 2020 - Sep 2022Sydney, Nsw, AuI lead an amazing team of ~140 engineers with domain expertise in the areas of Observability and Network Engineering for all of Atlassian. My current role encompasses two distinct streams which consists of Atlassians Observability platform and tooling solution as well as Network & Service Connectivity. This include our Service Fabric, Core Networking and Edge Network Services. There are 8 distinct teams of ~140 staff including dedicated PgM and PM support - spanning Australia, the USA and India.As part of this role I define strategy, operational direction & measurements, and ongoing optimisation of the teams and processes.Achievements:- Developed and implemented a multi year Observability strategy.- Reduced Observability costs by approximately $2M pa.- Scaled the teams by 30% over a 2 year period. -
Head Of Core InfrastructureAtlassian May 2016 - Nov 2020Sydney, Nsw, AuAs the head of Cloud Platform Operations, I created and lead several (7), engineering-focused teams, inside of Atlassian. Namely these teams and capabilities were:- Network Engineering (2014)- Cloud Engineering (2015)- FinOps (2016)- Kubernetes (2016)- Messaging (2017)- Edge Services (2018)- Anti-Abuse (2018)With the exception of the Kubernetes team, I created each of the above named teams. This meant it required the creation of a business cases, showing a clear value proposition and building business strategies through which I successfully obtained sponsorship and ultimately the funding to start-up these new capabilities within Atlassian.Achievements:- Networking exit from all DCs world wide, moving all Atlassians networks into the Cloud.- FinOps managed to save in excess of $30M per on Cloud related costs by either driving down the per unit cost or optimising our Cloud utilisation.- Anti-Abuse scans and verifies all file uploads, ensuring compliance with Australian Abhorrent Content laws.- Consolidated all customer notifications (egress) onto a single messaging platform with built in vendor fault tolerance and reducing outbound SPAM by as much as 95%.- Successfully negotiated Atlassians, two, largest Cloud Services Agreement with AWS across a period of 5 years. -

We were one of the first providers of virtual private systems (VPS) or Cloud Compute and custom hosting solutions in Australia. We had equipment co-located with various Sydney Data Centres and quite early on utilised AWS. At it's peak we operated several thousand websites and 100+ dedicated VPS (linux, windows) for various financial services and trading outfits in Sydney and Melbourne.Eventually the customer base was sold off to another Sydney based provider of hosting and dedicated server capabilities. -
