Risk Management Officer
CurrentSpearhead all property/casualty and worker’s compensation programs and manage a team of 10 direct reports. Protect the interests of Orange County Government, (including Orange Community College, the Orange County Jail, and 200+ bed health care facility) by monitoring the transfer of risk and non-transferable risk through training programs, code enforcement and administration of mandated and negotiated benefits. Review over 1500 contracts per year to ensure risk management policy compliance. Currently manage a $100+ million-dollar budget, including a self-insured worker’s comp, health, vision, and dental insurance programs for 3500+ employees and retirees. Accomplishments: Immediately saved the county $300K and over $1M in cumulative insurance premiums and costs by improving the bidding process for vendors, eliminating unnecessary consultants and re-bidding actuarial services. Digitized 40-years of liability policies in anticipation of potential NY CVA child abuse cases to ensure the correct policy and insurance carrier could be determined to ensure faster claim processing. Collaborated with the Orange County Department of Film and Tourism facilitate feature film and television production throughout the county. Completed comprehensive review of insurance requirement contract provisions and rolled out a new insurance contract requirement matrix to standardize requirements and facilitate vendor compliance. Added communicable disease coverage into worker’s comp excess coverage as soon as the pandemic became inevitable before all carriers eliminated the option to do so and established covid policies to ensure continue operations and safety for Orange County. Mitigated cyber/ data exposure and Covid 19 impacts to worker’s comp in 2021 to reduce costs. Developed new training programs, reducing the amount of worker’s comp claims for Orange County Government departments and Orange County Community College.
