With more than 36 years of trial experience and criminal justice leadership as both a prosecutor and civil litigator, I focus my practice on white collar and other criminal defense cases, complex civil litigation and representing clients in government and internal investigations.

With more than 25 years as an elected official in Boston, eight as a City Councilor and sixteen as District Attorney, I developed outstanding personal and professional relationships with key decision makers at all levels of government. I draw on that knowledge and those experiences in government to assist a wide array of businesses and real estate developers achieve their goals with unmatched credibility.

I led and managed one of the largest prosecutor’s offices in America, with an annual budget of approximately $20 million, and a staff of 275, including 150 assistant district attorneys. My team and I handled approximately 40,000 criminal cases each year, including major felonies and misdemeanors in ten trial courts and two appellate courts. As importantly, my work as District Attorney included partnering with schools and non-profit agencies to promote crime prevention, intervention strategies for at-risk youth and diversion programming. I am most proud of my work in human trafficking prevention, witness protection and strategies aimed at combating witness intimidation. As District Attorney, I was statutorily responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all homicides committed in Suffolk County, as well as sexually dangerous person litigation and civil asset forfeiture practice. Together with our police partners, my team and I helped drive crime AND incarceration down to historic lows.

Popularly elected member of the legislative branch of Boston municipal government. Duties included the drafting, consideration and enacting of ordinances and home rule petitions, analysis and enactment of the city’s operating and capital budgets, the development of city policies to enhance the lives and safety of Boston residents and the delivery of constituent services on a wide range of matters.

Trial attorney in a fast paced law firm with an emphasis on defense litigation. My practice primarily involved defending individual and corporate clients in matters involving commercial liability, product liability, motor vehicle accidents, and insurance fraud. Personally secured verdicts in favor of my clients in more than a dozen jury trial cases during this time period.

Duties included the investigation and prosecution of hundreds of criminal cases in the municipal, juvenile and superior courts including murder, sexual assault, drug trafficking, domestic violence and gang violence cases. Personally prosecuted more than 75 jury trial cases during this time period.
