Lecturer, teaching STCW short courses. I teach sea survival, boat driving, first aid, security, social responsibility, and deck hand courses, plus, any others required of me. For a mixed range of ages, cadets through to captains. Class sizes ranging from 1 person through to 16 persons generally, on occasion big lectures for 70+ when new cadet intake comes around.I currently work for MOST (marine offshore safety training) in South Shields, part of the world known South Tyneside Marine College. Work involves teaching a wide variety of students from all different backgrounds, keeping courses up to date, responding to individual students needs, organising and planning lessons, being responsible for the safety of those under my care in boats in the river and in the swimming pool.I am a time served mechanical/marine engineer. Gaining knowledge and experience in engineering practises such as: boilers, lifting equipment, safe working practises, pipework, valves, pumps, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, control systems and lifesaving equipment. I worked as a BMU (building maintenance unit) engineer, this is working at height on roofs of buildings in London; servicing/maintaining and repairing lifting equipment. I am adept at managing my time and meeting deadlines on time restricted jobs. I’m hard working and like to be challenged. I decided to change from a life at sea a few years ago, I have no problems where I work as long as its land based. As I’ve got older my priorities and work/life balance have changed.Prior to being a sailor/marine engineer, I worked as a Bar Manager in my hometown. Through this work I gained good management and organisational skills. Before working in bars and restaurants I studied engineering at university and worked at Swan Hunters shipyard in Newcastle upon Tyne.
