Daniel J. Devine is committed to “helping people help themselves” through many social, philanthropic, and educational ventures. Beginning in 1993, Mr. Devine led Compass Knowledge Group for almost 20 years creating the marketplace leader in serving the distance learning needs of top higher education institutions. The Compass Team were the visionaries behind the strategy of partnering with higher education institutions. This business model, now commonly referred to as Online Program Management (OPM), was originated in 1996 with a partnership with University of Florida College of Pharmacy.In 2010 Mr. Devine partnered with Knowledge Universe and Technology Crossover Ventures to merge Compass Knowledge Group with Embanet, another leader in serving the not-for-profit online higher education market. The continued success of the combined company, solidifying its position as the industry leader, led to the sale of the company to Pearson in 2012. The sale was the largest transaction to date of an educational services company.In 2010, he was named the Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur Of The Year Award in the technology category. Other honors include the University of Florida Outstanding Service Award.Mr. Devine currently serves on the boards of Esperanza International (www.esperanza.org), a micro-finance organization based in the Dominican Republic, Lighthouse Works (http://www.lighthouseworks.org) which supports job growth of the visually impaired, and Hope Africa Collective (HopeAfrica.com) serving the needs of the impoverished in the Cape Flats area outside Cape Town, South Africa. Previous board positions include over a decade of service to both the University of Florida’s College of Pharmacy and the College of Public Health and Health Professions Advisory Boards.
